Designer Spotlight: Julia Marsh

www.handknittedthings.blogspot.com
Julia Marsh

Julia Marsh learned the basics of knitting as a child, it wasn’t until decades later she picked up the needles again, began enjoying the craft and teaching herself new knitting techniques.

She started writing Hand Knitted Things blog in 2008 as a way of documenting her knitting projects and sharing them with others. This, combined with her interest in photography provided an outlet for her creative self. Over the years topics on her blog have expanded to include tutorials, book, yarn and pattern reviews.

Projects she enjoys knitting are hats, gloves and socks, “these are easy to carry around when travelling and feature a lot on my blog. I also write about my own knitted designs from time to time, many are inspired by the area and landscape around my home in NW Scotland” she says.

Julia divides her time between Yorkshire and a croft in the Scottish Highlands where until recently she kept a small flock of Shetland sheep. The highland scenery provides her with inspiration and the peace and quiet on the croft offers the opportunity to plan and try out design ideas.

Her work is regularly featured in knitting and craft magazines both in the UK and abroad and her independently published patterns are sold through Ravelry and Etsy.
